Dell's version of the LTD 163

Find which firmware version is currently in your drive first!

Dell's LTD-163 have their "own" firmware.

The files downloaded by clicking these links are not zip files but exe.

Run them in Windows and follow the instructions.

It will make a floppy to boot your machine with.

When you boot it will proceed to flash automatically,

so only boot with it if and when you want to flash!

      GDH9  15-Aug-2001

      GDHA  10-Sep-2001

      GDHG   23-Dec-2002

The following firmware runs in Windows no diskette needed.

Read my general precautions for flashing in Windows!

Dell's info:This firmware allows the LTD 163 drive to read multisession DVD +R media.

Extra info for EAC users: GDHJ does not cache audio! making it ideal for secure mode!

      GDHJ   15-May-2003

Making your Dell region free: GDHG and GDHJ can  be made region free with Rpcde2.

GDHA can NOT. I'm not sure about other Dell's firmware versions - give them a try,

It's very easy, look at  the region free page. Please report your own results, thanks!

It is possible to convert a Dell LTD 163 to a "real" Liteon by flashing it with a

Liteon firmware, but consider Dell's warranty first! You can use a binary firmware or:

Flash your Dell LTD 163 in one go in Windows to Jlms (Liteon) firmware:

It's an original Jlms upgrader which I fixed to allow it to upgrade any Dell 163 drive:

GH5S-D  unzip and run directly in Windows after you read this

You can always flash back to a Dell firmware with MtkWinFlash and a binary firmware

Mind you: I'm NOT saying it will make your drive any better...

In fact, I'm using a retail Liteon 163 which I flashed with Dell's GHDJ!

      Dell's XJ-HD166

Dell has stopped supplying the LTD 163 and replaced it with XJ-HD 166. It's an OEM
JLMS XJ-HD 166s and can be flashed with (Flashfixed or binary) 166s firmwares.
Known firmware: DD05 and DD06, binary extractions of those here

      Advanced users: Tweak your drive!

There are some nice patched firmware made by
C0deKing and Code65536, known as CodeGuys,
that will enable various Liteon drives to read/rip
DVD R/RW media faster, or  in some cases will
force slower CD/DVD reading for quiet operation.
All  tweaks carry some risk, but these guys sure
know what they are doing :)
Please read the enclosed documentaion first!
Get the fix for your drive at the firmwares page of CodeGuys site

          Thanks guys!
